Get Your Brush Out
Believe it or not, sometimes all you need to tame those unruly curls is to get the brush out!
Umm, we don’t mean old skool style like our mums used to do though!
If you feel like your hair isn’t absorbing product properly or your curls aren’t clumping, try this:
- Section your hair
- Take the first section and get it soaking wet
- Apply your styling product onto the section
- Brush the section through with tension and then scrunch and pulse upwards to encourage clumps
- Repeat on each section
This styling technique gives great results every single time. If you want shiny, frizz-free curls that last for days, then give this a try!
Proper Diffusing Makes ALL The Difference
Maybe you’ve got your styling routine down, but after drying your curls, you’re left with frizzy, dull hair. If that sounds like you, then you may need to implement some minor changes to your diffusing process.
First, make sure you’re using a diffuser attachment and set your hair dryer to medium heat and medium speed. Always start by hovering at the roots, without letting the diffuser touch your hair (yep, you heard us right - when hair is this wet, we avoid touching it with the diffuser to reduce frizz). Go around your crown in circular motions.
Once your roots start drying, slowly move down your hair, keeping the diffuser at a 10-15cm distance from your hair. (At this point, entertain yourself with something else so you forget your arm is about to fall off 🫠)
When your hair is about 50-70% dry, cup sections of hair into the diffuser, scrunch upwards and hold each section there for a few seconds (no, you don’t need to be going up and down like they do at the hairdressers 😛 all that does is cause frizz!). Repeat for each section until your hair is completely dry.
P.S. If you're flipping your head upside down for more volume, roll your head gently from side to side to avoid getting it tangled and creating unnecessary frizz.
Use The Right Towel
On first appearances, the humble towel seems innocent, but when you look closer, terry towels (traditional towels), have tiny little loops that are designed to remove moisture from things. Unfortunately, these little loops get into curls and disrupt their structure, causing them to frizz up.
Instead of using a traditional towel, use a gentle curl towel or an old t-shirt that has a smooth surface and is designed to remove just the excess water from curls. Use it to micro-plop (gently scrunch) when you come out of the shower before, or after applying your styling products.
